Faculty and students publish, students participate in Parkinson's walk, program hosts podcast, and alumni are elected as VPTA delegates

The fall semester proved to be an active one for Shenandoah’s physical therapy (PT) program. Here are just a few of the highlights:

Abraham’s Work Published

Dean of the School of Health Professions and Professor of Physical TherapyKaren Abraham, PT, Ph.D., is one of the authors of “Disability, Pelvic Girdle Pain, and Depressive Symptoms in the First 3 Months Postpartum,” and “Soft Tissue Mobilization Techniques Are Effective in Treating Chronic Pain Following Cesarean Section: A Multicenter Randomized Clinical Trial,” both published in the September/December issue of the Journal of Women’s Health Physical Therapy.

PT Student’s Work Published

Physical therapy student Arturo Avila-Silva ’20 was an author of “Vaccine-related attitudes and decision-making among uninsured, Latin American immigrant mothers of adolescent daughters: a qualitative study,” recently published in the Journal of Human Vaccines & Immunotherapeutics.

Physical Therapy Faculty, Alumni Elected As VPTA Delegates

Congratulations to the Division of Physical Therapy Director of Clinical Education and Assistant Professor Megan Bureau ’04, DPT, for being re-elected as a Virginia Physical Therapy Association (VPTA) delegate and to Kyle Feldman ‘11,’14, DPT, for also being elected as a VPTA delegate.

PT Students Participate in Parkinson’s Walk

A few students from the Physical Therapy Class of 2021 attended Walk Off Parkinson’s, an event held at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., to raise awareness for the Parkinson Foundation of the National Capital Area. The students participated in the Physical Therapists and Friends team, with all completing a 1.2-mile walk around the baseball stadium, and all had a chance to go on the field. Those participating included Lauren Auzenne, Elizabeth Oden, Kaylan Bozick, Jenny Fritts, Nicole Balducci, Sam Sova, Jordan Considine, Jessica Drury and Allie Lewis.

PT Pintcast, the premier podcast for the profession of physical therapy, hosted by Jimmy McKay, PT, DPT, who talks PT with the leading minds in the field, recorded at Shenandoah University in October.
